Apprehensive Dichotomy

The main figure in this painting is strange…I know, I painted it. However, she symbolizes our dual realities, our façades and double standards; thus she is strange, and ugly, as this gives a heightened awareness to some of the unwanted characteristics of humanity. She is anxious, worried, and mentally upset; she is divided (as are other objects in this painting), opposed, and contradictory; she is apprehensive and torn between many things, thus I ll this painting Apprehensive Dichotomy. Also, this description of the main figure is paralleled in the skull figure; he is coming apart, is anxious, and unpredictable to a certain degree, yet, it becomes obvious that his predicament is fueled by the woman he is trying to take hold of. The jellyfish, and such in the sky, represent the familiar in unfamiliar surroundings, as does the bird juxtaposed in the main figure’s heart.
