Psychological Emancipation
36”h X 80”w
Oil on Canvas
2005
This painting is about the difference between our mind and our body, and the choices we make in life. Our body wants to do such and such, but our mind forbids it, and vice-a-verse. It’s about freeing our mind from our body and taking things to another level, perhaps a spiritual level; but at the same time, the reality of struggle between the two—I know I can do this, but my body won’t let me…it’s to big, to small, to frail, etc., even to the point where your body places reigns on your mind and attempts to control it. My paintings, or ideas of, are about the freedom of exploring anything, the courage to break the cycle and create happenings that make our experiences in life wonderful. The head of the figure has closed eyes, as if she is only dreaming to be free.
